YOUR QUESTIONS TO GOD

Civilization III is a computer strategy game that "is an addictive blend of building, exploration, discovery and conquest. Players match wits against some of history's greatest leaders as they strive to build the ultimate civilization to stand the test of time." In short, Civilization III is a game that lets you play God. Its most recent ad (as seen in the Nov. 22 issue of Entertainment Weekly) has a picture of several mythical gods and a caption which reads "WHAT IF THERE WAS ONLY ONE GOD? AND IT WAS YOU? . . . PLAY HISTORY AS IF YOU WERE THE ULTIMATE CREATOR."

We could argue the "what if there was only one god" issue. In fact, you discussed that a few months ago ( Who God Is?) I think we'd all agree, however, that we are not the ultimate creator. But what if you could talk to the One who is? What if you could ask one question of the Being who created everything we see? What if you could grill the God who runs civilization?

IF YOU COULD ASK GOD ANY QUESTION, WHAT WOULD YOU ASK?

This month, a thousand teenagers were given the freedom to ask God any question, silly or serious. Here are some of their responses. If you've ever been confused by the way God is running things, if you've ever wondered if He's just playing a game with us, or if you'd just like to know if Adam had a belly-button, check out these thought provoking questions for God and know that you are not alone. . .

Do you ever lose your patience with us? Andy, age 22

I was wondering, will i see my dog in heaven? I'm being totally serious. My dog died this year, and I loved her like a friend. I was wondering, will the animals in our lives be with us in the after life? Cass, age 12

How are people chosen to go to Heaven? What if you were a Sunday Christian or did the good works without faith? How is there a distinction between one who truly believed their whole lives and it was reflected in them, and one who only made time for their faith? Lauren, age 16

Why will people never figure out each other? Rachel

I would ask God why He created the world. I know there are several reasons for it, but I want to know the main one. Anonymous

Does the Devil really just "work" for God? I mean, even when the devil tries a person, if the person is strong enough to overcome the trials, that just makes a person's relationship with God grow stronger. Kyle

I would probably ask him what he was thinking when he created the platypus. I'm just kidding. I would probably ask him what he wants me to do with my life. I know this really isn't much of a world-altering question, but I am pretty much in the dark about my future. Oh, why not, I'll ask him about the platypus too. Griffin, age 15

Are actors "sinning" when they do movies. its not really them, but pretending to be a Columbian drug lord, a terrorist, a murderer. . . is that as bad as being one of those things? I have many questions for God but this one is really pertains to me at this point and time because I'm involved in so many school plays where my character says or does things that I would not normally do. God, why is it so had to follow you and do the right thing all the time? Maybe it is because you are testing us. But if you want us all to live in your kingdom, why? And did Adam have a belly button? How old was Mary when she had Jesus? How old was Eve when she had her first child? Is it wrong to get a tattoo? Jenna, age 13

Lord, I know that every one has to die sometime, but why do some of us die so young? why can't we all at least stay alive till we are 95 or somewhere around there? Why are there diseases that kill us or harm us? Why do we always hurt when someone dies? When we are all gonna die sometime? Anonymous

I would ask God what's my life going to come to, and why so many people don't like me, and why my family hardly gets along. I would ask him when and how I would die and why he made me and what he wants me to do for him. If I got to talk to God I wouldn't probably be able to ask him anything cause I would just be speechless. Shannon, age 16

Well, the news is talking about the new clone being born and everything. What I was wondering was does a clone have a soul? I mean because it wasn't made the regular way. Also I was wondering if you can read minds? Is that a good thing or a bad thing, and how could you use it in a good way with avoiding the bad way? What is the purpose for fleas, ticks ,and mosquitoes? They suck blood and carry diseases. Sarah, age 15

If you have to believe that Jesus is God's son and that he died for you, then what happened to all of the Old Testament people? Did they go straight to hell? Anonymous

I do not know if I would ask God a question, it would be more like asking God a favor. God, You are all knowing and have seen it all since before it began. And you know I can often be hardheaded and dense. Would you please let me see your will in my life by way of a shout and not a whisper. It would sure help me out. Thanks for listening. Marc, age 45

Dear God, I have so many things to ask, so how do I pick just one. You are my God and my creator and I do not question your decisions. Although I would like to ask if Earth is the only planet, in all of the millions of galaxies and universes, to have living beings on it? Why should we be the only beings to inhabit your creation? I think it would be neat to have another person just like me somewhere out there millions of miles away (I hope he can keep up with his retainer better than I can). Jarrod, age 13

I would ask God when I'm supposed to meet the guy I'm going to marry. That way I could avoid involving myself with all the jerks I come across. It would make my life a whole lot easier. But then again, life would be pretty boring if you always knew what was going to happen. Anonymous

Is there only one person out there for us to meet, fall in love with, and marry or are there multiple people we would be equally happy with? Your word tells us you know the plans you have for us. If we go against that plan even once can it still work out the way you wanted? I mean come on, is Elvis really dead? As we go through life, how do we know when it's time to move on from a relationship or job? There seems to be some confusion down here. What is your idea of roles for men and women in the church and the home? How many times can a heart be broken and still love again? Andy, age 25
